5-Minute Star Wars Stories

Summary

In this book there are twelve short stories based off all nine of the Star Wars movies that have been released. These stories are summaries and important pieces through the Star War's Skywalker story line. The stories have a mix of in depth story line and pictures to help the reader through the story line.

Literary Elements

This a science fiction genre book that takes place "a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...". The theme that runs throughout all of these stories is good verses evil, light side verses the dark side. The point of view changes based on the story and mainly using omniscient narrative. The plot of each story changes based off which story you are reading however, they all tie together when read one after another.


Activities
  1. Would you be light side or dark side? Draw what you would want your lightsaber to look like
  2. We need to build a droid! Let's take pieces around the classroom or home and create a droid based off what pieces are available to you

Reader Response
  1. Why do you think Darth Vader is on the dark side? If you grew up like Darth Vader would you be on the Dark Side? Why?
  2. Do you think droids were important in Star Wars? Why, why not?

Personal Thoughts and Similar Works

The Star Wars saga is a personal favorite of mine and I have read and currently reading many Star Wars books. I bought this book a few years ago so my son and I can read the Star War stories together. They do a good job at capturing all the important pieces of the saga in a child's book and the pictures are nicely illustrated with bold colors.

Each person reviewed provides an illustration of the hero and what they have contributed to black history. Along with their contribution the text also provides what struggles and adversity they faced.  Literary Elements This is an informational non-fiction book with illustrated portraits of each hero. The theme is reviewing each hero throughout history and displays each person chronology, ending with people who are still alive today. The Story of Frida Kahlo  By Susan B. Katz Summary This book is all about the life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. It starts at her birth and gives her life events until her death. Frida was sick most of her life but still produced beautiful paintings. Her father encouraged her creativity and painting.   Literary Elements This genre is biography providing an account of Frida Kahlo's life. The accuracy of this book is based on all facts throughout Frida's life. The writing style of this book is engaging and explains Frida's life easily for a young reader to understand.
